ERE Research launches the new Explorator CCR45: a high-performance all-road carbon wheelset without compromise

Weighing just 1575 grams, featuring a modern 25mm internal rim width and an aerodynamic 45mm carbon rim profile, the Explorator CCR45 immediately positions itself as one of the most versatile and competitive all-road wheelsets in its category. 

The CCR45 is designed for the new generation of riders who seamlessly transition between smooth asphalt, rough backroads, gravel sectors, and demanding cobblestones. 

During the development of the Explorator CCR45, one objective remained central: creating a wheelset capable of delivering maximum performance across every surface without compromising durability, control, or reliability. 

To achieve this, the CCR45 underwent extensive testing according to international ISO testing standards, successfully passed all required UCI approval procedures, and was subjected to intensive real-world field testing. 

For these field tests, ERE Research deliberately headed to one of cycling’s most brutal proving grounds: the legendary cobblestone sectors surrounding Roubaix. Here, the wheelset was pushed to its limits under extreme conditions to validate impact resistance, handling precision, stability, and long-term durability. 

The results extended far beyond laboratory data alone. Together with one of our test riders and top athletes, the Explorator CCR45 was successfully raced at Elite competition level. During Paris-Roubaix U19, the wheelset immediately secured an impressive 5th place finish. A powerful confirmation of the CCR45’s performance, reliability and control under some of the harshest racing conditions in the world.

The Explorator CCR45 combines the speed of a modern aero road wheelset with the stability and control required for gravel and all-road riding. 

Thanks to its wide 25mm internal rim width, the wheelset perfectly supports modern tires between 32mm and 55mm, while maintaining full compatibility from 29mm up to 71mm (ETRTO). This makes the CCR45 equally at home on a fast endurance road bike as it is on an aggressive gravel setup. 

The hooked carbon rims are fully tubeless-ready and built around a carefully optimized carbon layup for maximum stiffness, durability, and ride comfort.

At the heart of the wheelset sits the updated ERE IONA II hub, featuring a reliable 3-pawl engagement system designed for direct power transfer and long-term durability combined with:

• Premium Alpina Extralite straight-pull spokes and Alpina brass double square ABT lock nipples.
